Natasha’s Law / PPDS Foods Cheat Sheet
1. What is Natasha’s Law?
Requires all Prepacked for Direct Sale (PPDS) foods to display:
- Food Name
- Full Ingredient List
- Any of the 14 Major Allergens (clearly highlighted)
2. Examples of PPDS Foods
- In-house packaged sandwiches, salads, soups
- Baked goods packaged on premises
- Pre-portioned desserts
Not PPDS: made-to-order foods or prepackaged supplier items.
3. The 14 Major Allergens
Cereals containing gluten
Crustaceans
Eggs
Fish
Peanuts
Soybeans
Milk
Nuts
Celery
Mustard
Sesame seeds
Sulphur dioxide / sulphites
Lupin
Molluscs
4. Label Compliance
- Include food name and full ingredient list
- Highlight any allergens clearly (bold, color, or italics)
- Optional: Use-by date, storage info
- Ensure labels are legible and secure
5. Sample Label
Food Name: Chicken & Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients: Chicken breast, Wheat flour (gluten), Cheese (Milk), Lettuce, Mayonnaise (Eggs, Mustard)
Allergens: Gluten, Milk, Eggs, Mustard

6. Cross-contamination
If unavoidable, you can use “may contain” statements. It cannot replace proper hygiene or allergen risk management.
7. Online Orders
PPDS foods sold online must include allergen information either on the packaging or clearly displayed digitally.
8. Risks of Non-Compliance
- Fines or legal action
- Customer safety risks
- Damage to business reputation
